Objectives

On completion of this module, students will be able to: demonstrate the principles required to effectively critique research; acquire research and statistical knowledge which informs evidence-based clinical practice; confidently debate the range of selected practice situations and limitations of current thinking which challenges professional boundaries; critically evaluate a range of reviews to inform practice; critically analyse and debate issues in using research evidence in practice.

Syllabus

This module will initially concentrate on improving and enhancing critical reading skills, exploring appropriate research and statistical methodologies currently used in clinical practice, and consider the evidence presented. Considerable emphasis will be placed on evaluating evidence to improve all types of practice. The context of evidence-based care will be discussed, including multidisciplinary and policy developments. Resources to support evidence-based care will be assessed and examined critically.
